Glinski, Gregor , Markus Mäder, and Heide Heim. Masters of Tattoo. Zurich: Edition Stemmle, 1998. Print.

Masters of Tattoo dove into the ‘freaks’ of the tattoo world, getting to know the people who had received tattoos. Though most of the book is visual, displaying the art on these people’s bodies, some text accompanies the images, explaining the person’s career and lifestyle. I think seeing people, even if in print, with art on their bodies, and seeing where they came from and the lifestyle they belong to now will help me pull a counter to some of the negatives of tattoos that I’ve found so far.

Lauder, Maureen. "Tattooing." Encyclopedia of Sex and Gender. Ed. Fedwa Malti-Douglas. Vol. 4. Detroit: Macmillan Reference USA, 2007. 1456-1458. Gale Virtual Reference Library. Web. 21 Feb. 2011.

The Encyclopedia of Sex and Gender explores the basic history of tattooing, and it’s importance to primitive cultures dating back more than 5,000 years in the past. They also follow through to our current age and correlate tattoos with sexuality, and how some of the recipients get them for purposes of more than just art on their bodies… some enjoy the pain accompanied by the tattoos. This is another subset of the world of tattooing that I think will provide a broader view of the culture of tattoos.

“Mathew Johnston.” Personal Interview . 20 Feb. 2011.

This interview is to be conducted this week, and I’ll be talking with a person I’ve known for the last 11 years. He has deployed with the military quite a few times, and has returned home with tattoos from two of his major trips. He currently works for the Idaho Air National Guard, where he has been employed for the last 8 years. From casual talks with him in the past, he doesn’t regret his tattoos, but he might have done things differently in choosing what he really wanted.

"Psychiatric Forensic Patients With Tattoos More Likely To Have Antisocial Personality Disorder." Science Daily: News & Articles in Science, Health, Environment & Technology. 16 July 2008. Web. 21 Feb. 2011.

This article explores the correlation of Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) in people that have tattoos. The research was done patients of a maximum-security state psychiatric facility, and makes some interesting number matches. The fact that it was done on only psychiatric patients might make the numbers skew a bit in their favor, but the numbers are still interesting. They attempt to correlate the depth of the disorder with the amount of tattoos on the body. This could be helpful in finding out the mind-set of someone with tattoos covering their publically visible areas and how people might look at them and gain a first impression.

Silver, Eric, Matthew VanEseltine, and Stacy J. Silver. "Tattoo Acquisition: A Prospective Longitudinal Study of Adolescents." Deviant Behavior 30.6 (2009): 511-538. Academic Search Premier. EBSCO. Web. 21 Feb. 2011.

In this article, the adolescent group is explored to find the driving factors behind kids with tattoos. While the numbers in the pool seem a bit small to me, the data brings up some interesting questions of why certain groups of teens get tattoos. Certain races have a higher probability, as do backgrounds. The information in this article should prove to be useful, showing that a more mature mind should be able to handle the lifestyle of a tattoo holder better than a teen.

Williams, Corry. "My First TATTOO - Ink from South Beach Miami." YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. SMP Films, 01 Aug. 2008. Web. 21 Feb. 2011

In this video, the author/producer of the video explains his reasoning behind getting his tattoo. Not only is he getting something that he really wants, he’s getting something that he designed. Throughout the video, he explains the feelings and emotions of getting the tattoo, and the listener/viewer gets an idea of the environment that the tattoo is being given in. I think it’s a good look into an almost first-person view of the experience. This is what I have to look foreword to! And I think it’s given me a few ideas of how to look around the environments that I do my interviews in… the entire interview isn’t just focused on him; small clips from around the store are shown as well. They did an excellent job I think, giving a good feeling to the experience.
